The Australian and New Zealand Academy of EndodontistsHISTORYFollowing the first registration of a dental specialist with the title of Endodontist in Australia or New Zealand in 1970, several dentists conducting restricted or mainly restricted endodontic practices in Australia met informally as a group in Sydney at the Australian Dental Association Congress in 1973. In 1978 this group was identified as the Specialist Sub-committee of the Australian Society of Endodontology. With increasing membership in the 1980's, the group became known as the Australian Endodontic Specialist's Group, which held its inaugural scientific meeting in Adelaide in 1986. In 1990, the Group's membership was approaching fifty in number, including one from New Zealand. At the 8th General Meeting of the Australian Society of Endodontology held in Coolum, Queensland in August 1990, the Group decided to progress towards the adoption of a Constitution and the acquisition of a formal identity and title. A guiding committee of five members was appointed and they prepared an initial draft of the Constitution that was presented to a meeting in Adelaide in March 1991 where the title "Endodontists' Association of Australia" was adopted. In Melbourne in October 1991, the provisional name of "Endodontists' Academy of Australia" was adopted and the decision was taken to hold a Foundation Meeting. The Foundation Meeting took place in Melbourne in March 1993 where the title "Australian Academy of Endodontists" and the inaugural Constitution were formally ratified and adopted. In Hobart in March 1995, the name was changed to "Australian and New Zealand Academy of Endodontists". ist of Past ANZAE Presidents & Secretary/TreasurersAustralian Academy of Endodontists*

(Dates and location refer to the particular AGM at which there was the change of office bearers, unless otherwise indicated) *Prior to the establishment of the Australian Academy of Endodontists in 1993, an increasing number of dentists from the early 1970's restricted practice or specialised in endodontics. In the mid 1970's, these practitioners were identified as a Specialist Sub-committee of the Australian Society of Endodontology (ASE) and from the mid-1980's became known as the Australian Endodontic Specialist's Group, chaired by Dr. Tony Martin.
